Corporate records

Companies that touch this building, and companies that were hoped to. Status is occupancy or ownership of 1316, not whether the firm existed.

Decision change this pass: earlier packets said Kleinschmidt was “not this building.” That is withdrawn for 1884 occupancy. They are the first named occupant of the stone warehouse on Block 25. Title (whether they owned the lots) is still unproven — Sanborn is use, not deed (01_DEEDS.md).

SOS foreign-corporation file for Nash Finch in Montana: not retrieved this pass (portal opened; name search not completed for NASH FINCH). They may have been tenants. EagleWeb grantor exact NASH FINCH = 0 (01_DEEDS.md).

Do not confuse with the 1915 Fred Willson Nash-Finch warehouse in Bozeman, Montana (612 E Main). Different city.

3. Christie Transfer & Storage — VERIFIED operator (1935); two other buildings in the papers

SOS file: not found this pass (grantor search on EagleWeb = 0; biz.sosmt.gov name search for CHRISTIE TRANSFER not completed). Likely a Butte domestic or foreign corp. Search path: biz.sosmt.gov → CHRISTIE TRANSFER.

4. Capital Transfer & Storage — VERIFIED occupant 1949–2026; record-owner family from ≥1995

1949–1998: operating company (Horne grandfather + father) — not found as an older Montana corporation under “CAPITAL TRANSFER.” Likely partnership / sole prop with no SOS corp. KTVH + company: founded 1949; John full-time 1971; brother 1974; closed 1 July 2026. https://www.ktvh.com/news/capital-transfer-and-storage-closes-after-76-years

Title: Dorothy M. Horne / Capital Transfer on the mortgages by 26 May 1995; John takes deed from Dorothy’s estate 31 Dec 2007 (01_DEEDS.md).

76 years is the company’s age (1949–2026). A 1949–50 Polk line would lock the first year at this address. Until then: “family firm from 1949; this warehouse is the house they were known from; they closed in it on 1 July 2026.”

5. Union Mercantile Company — existed; still NOT tied to 1316

Decision: keep off the building story. 1884 Sanborn names Kleinschmidt, not Union Mercantile. Diane’s “Sept 1880 service” note is generic — do not use.
