Helena as She Was@HelenaHistory August 29, 2020 The earthquakes which struck the Helena area in October of 1935 were particularly destructive in the Sixth Ward (aka Depot District), since the epicenter was less than a mile east of the Northern Pacific Depot. Here we see cases of liquor being removed from the shattered State Liquor Warehouse on Bozeman St., adjacent to the Nash-Finch food and beverage distributor warehouse, 1316 Bozeman. The warehouse was managed by the Christie Transfer & Storage Co., hence the Christie pickup truck. Plans were already underway to build a new warehouse when the earthquakes struck.
